| The park is named after a large, arrowhead shaped granite quarry that is one of three historic quarries that are now lakes. The area is now a bird sanctuary-a haven for bird watching. Stones from these quarries were used to build several buildings in downtown Sioux Falls, including the Old Courthouse Museum. The City Parks Department is replanting native prairie grass and developing a network of hiking trails on the land, which was donated by Dale and Dorthy Weir. Be sure to see the restored 1888 barn, which some claim was designed by famous architect Wallace Dow.

| A Magnificent, full-sized reproduction of the statue of "David" by Michelangelo (one of only two castings ever made) is located in Fawick Park in downtown Sioux Falls. Cast from the famous sculpture completed by Michelangelo in 1504, it depicts a young, confident David poised to lash out with his sling at the giant, Goliath. The original is located in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy and is considered to be one of the finest sculptures in the world. In 1971, the "David" statue was given to the city and to Augustana College by Thomas Fawick, A Sioux Falls Native who made a fortune as an inventor and automobile manufacturer. The statue of "David" generated considerable controversy in the city when it first arrived. Some felt a nude body displayed in public was not only in bad taste, but would have a bad effect on the community's moral values. The statue was placed facing away from traffic, and trees were planted to screen it from the street. Take time to visit Fawick Park and experience one of the great masterpieces of all time-right here in Sioux Falls!
